There are two reasons. On the one hand, the snowstorm in the south at the beginning of the year has laid a foundation for reducing the production of fruits, sucrose and other raw materials in the second half of the year. On the other hand, the shortage of raw materials is bound to drive up the price of raw materials, exports may also decline.

 

 

 

The responsible person of the Canning Association said that canning enterprises should actively adapt themselves to the market, develop more new varieties and packages, and promote export growth. At the same time, leading enterprises must form brand cohesion and stress encirclement.

 

 

 

The snowstorm started at the beginning of the canned food.

 

 

 

Although the snow disaster in the south of the beginning of the year has long passed, it has just started to play a role in canning industry. Reporters learned that the supply of raw materials closely related to agricultural products was tight. "At present, most of the enterprises are still using last year's stock of raw materials, shortage of raw materials in the second half of the year will be a major problem plaguing fruit processing enterprises," the general manager of a canning enterprise in Zhejiang told reporters anxiously.

 

 

 

Reporters learned that Zhejiang is one of the snow-stricken areas, to fruit trees for example, snow caused nearly 1/2 of the fruit tree branches broken or deformed in varying degrees. In addition, fruit varieties in the south, such as oranges, bananas, pineapples and so on, generally can not tolerate cold, in the face of frost or snow after serious yield reduction.

 

 

 

According to the preliminary estimates of the industry, fruit production will drop by more than 60%% this year. Processing enterprises in the disaster-stricken areas of Zhejiang Province have begun to advance the booking of raw materials to enterprises in Guangdong, Hainan and other places to prepare for production in the second half of the year.

 

 

 

A few days ago, some industry insiders said that the January snow disaster on prices has not been fully released, the impact on fruit prices will be fully released in two or three years. Because most fruit trees can't be planted in the same year and bear fruit in the same year, the impact of the snow disaster at the beginning of the year may last more than three years. For example, fruit processing enterprises need less than 20% of the total raw materials, other cost components have also changed. In Guangxi, a major sugar producing area, sugar yield is 70% - 80% lower than normal because most of the sugarcane fields are frozen. Therefore, the disaster in Guangxi is bound to lead to soaring domestic sugar prices this year. Canned exports may turn "sunny and cloudy".

 

 

 

Over the years, China's canned goods, which have been devoted to overseas markets, have gradually become a very competitive force in the international market. Over the past few decades, export earnings have made tremendous contributions to the country. However, when it comes to canned exports this year, Liang Zhongkang, chairman of China canned industry association, is cautious. He told reporters that the trend of canned exports this year is not very clear, but it is certain that due to the rising cost of raw materials and the RMB continued to accelerate appreciation and other factors, the export price of canned goods will rise in a certain proportion.

 

 

 

In the view of several cannery companies, with the adjustment of the national macroeconomic policy and the impact of the snow disaster in the South on canned raw materials, the overall export volume of canned goods will drop considerably this year compared with last year, and some even predict a drop of at least 30%.

 

 

 

Reporters learned that last year, China's Canned exports compared to 2006 continued to maintain steady progress. According to customs statistics, China's export of canned goods last year was 2.7779 million tons, an increase of 21.57% over the same period last year, making it the largest food export in China.

 

 

 

Although the speed and scale of canning development is gratifying, but the China Canning Industry Association said that there are still many problems in China's fruit canning industry, the most fundamental problem is the extensive mode of industry growth, low product profits. At present, the growth of China's canned fruit export mainly depends on large quantity, low price, low added value of products, lack of independent brands, coupled with disorderly competition in the industry, the profit margin of canned products is very narrow. According to the 2004 Economic Analysis and Statistics Letter of the National Bureau of Statistics, the average profit margin of 645 canned enterprises in China is 2.51%, and the annual per capita profit and tax is only about 8000 yuan. However, with the overall rise of raw material costs related to canning in recent years, the cost pressure has increased, and many fruit canning enterprises have difficulty in surviving. This year's snowstorm is undoubtedly worse.
