Mexican food processing enterprises promised to freeze more than 150 kinds of food prices for six months to help low-and middle-income families cope with rising prices.

 

Mexican President Felipe Calderon announced on the same day that edible oil, flour, canned tuna, juice and other foods by December 31 this year to maintain the current price, no longer raise prices. "This message will actively and directly help millions of Mexicans reduce their burdens, reflecting the commitment of Mexican entrepreneurs to national and price stability," he said. He also announced that the government would provide about 120 pesos ($11.6) a month to 26 million low-income people, and about a quarter of Mexicans would benefit from it. Inflation in May was the fastest in more than three years, driven by rising prices.
