Canned fruit in Taizhou sells well in Australia 2018-11-14 09:01:26

Canned fruit in Taizhou sells well in Australia

Recently, the reporter learned from Taizhou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that since the entry into force of the Sino-Australian Free Trade Agreement 16 months ago, Taizhou fruit cans have received greater opportunities for development. As of March, the export of canned fruits from Taizhou to Australia in 2017 was 861.7 tons, or 1.65 million US dollars, up 143.8% and 148.8% respectively compared with the same period last year.

It is understood that in June 2013, the Australian Productivity Commission filed a safeguard investigation on imported processed fruits, and it is possible to ban the import of canned fruits in an all-round way. This news affects many canned fruit producers in China, prompting enterprises to slow down and expand the Australian market.

With the signing of the Sino-Australian Free Trade Agreement, Australia's policy risk of introducing trade protective measures has been reduced, and Taizhou's canned fruit import business is booming again. In 2016, 26.20.4 tons and 48.95 million US dollars of canned fruits were transported to Australia in Taizhou, up 41% and 40.9% respectively compared with 2015.

In early 2015, Australia suspected that 18 hepatitis A patients in its territory were related to eating frozen strawberries from Shandong Province. Although it was confirmed as an Oolong incident, Chinese fruit processing enterprises were still affected and their international reputation was damaged.

In order to improve the quality of canned fruits transported to Australia, Taizhou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau strengthened the supervision of product quality process, and required enterprises to strictly regulate the operation of canned foods to ensure quality and safety. In the past 3 years, there have been no unqualified fruit cans and foreign returns in Taizhou.

In recent years, Taizhou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has vigorously supported enterprises to develop high value-added products such as soft canned fruit and fruit puree. In 2016, Taizhou fruit puree products were exported to Australia for the first time. Once packaged, the products were immediately airlifted to Australia.

At present, the product is well received by Australian consumers. Up to five new fruit puree varieties are put on the market every season, and the development momentum is good. In 1-3 months of 2017, Taizhou exported Australia 32.8 tons of fruit pulp and 95 thousand US dollars.
