Although Thailand's pineapple juice (PJC) is expected to be in short supply this year, it was originally estimated to be better than last year. But for now, the contract will be delayed. Recent reports received from Thailand indicate that no price is offered for all winter crops (canned and juice) plants. Pineapple prices rebounded to 13 baht/kg (equivalent to more than $360 per ton), and may be higher. Pineapple prices soared to 15 baht/kg last year. Although few people pay at this price, they usually pay 14.0-14.5 baht/kg. Only 3,000 tons of pineapple go into processing plants every day, and cans are preferred as before. "Some factories have postponed their earlier promised shipping orders." A Foodnews insider said. "Several factories, mistakenly overestimating the supply of raw materials in the second quarter, began to suffer from over-commitment orders." Canneries reported that tinplate prices had risen, "the situation has become very grim," added Foodnews insiders. His assessment was confirmed by another industry insider and the factories had to wait 2-3 days to collect enough pineapples to schedule a production shift. Indonesia's pineapple has no chance to relieve this year's production. In the first half of this year, the supply of processed fruits fell by 45% compared with last year, about 13-140,000 tons, mainly due to the two-month delay in the rainy season, which also led to pineapple production reduction.

 

Indonesia is trying to replenish orders for its main export markets, but the scarcity of supplies in the first quarter delayed the export of selected pineapple products to the United States and Japan by two to three months.
