High content bisphenol A found in canned foods in the US

On November 3, 2009, the Consumer Association (CU), a non-profit organization in the United States, reported the results of a survey on bisphenol A content in canned food. The results showed that bisphenol A was found in many canned foods with a content of 0.3 ppb-191 ppb.

The canned food included soup, juice, tuna and green beans. Among them, the highest content was detected in green beans and soup. Canned foods with high bisphenol A content may cause BPA intake to exceed the safe value of 0.185 mg/kg body weight/day, which is harmful to health.

At the same time, the Consumer Association also admitted that the survey was limited in scope, involving only a small number of foods, so the findings could not be taken as a general conclusion. The content of bisphenol A in similar products of different regions or brands may also be different.
