Hongkong found a variety of luncheon meat sardines with excessive salt content

The Hong Kong Consumer Council has found that many canned lunch meat contain excessive salt, of which half a canned lunch meat has exceeded the daily intake recommended by the WHO.

The Hongkong Council and the Food Safety Center gathered 17 canned luncheon meat and 16 canned sardines in supermarkets and grocery stores to inspect the nutritional labels on the packages. The results showed that a number of lunch meats had high sodium content, the highest of which was lunch meat. Half a can of sodium intake was 2,230 mg, equivalent to eating more than a teaspoon of salt, exceeding the daily intake recommended by the WHO. The sodium content of luncheon meat, ham meat and ham pork exceeded the standard.

In addition, the sodium content of XO sauce sardines and Japanese salads was slightly exceeded. The Japanese eggplant sauce sandy meal, eating a can of about 700 mg of sodium, exceeding the daily limit of intake.

The Consumer Council recommends that people should pay attention to nutrition labels when buying canned food, choose foods with low sodium and low fat, and eat sardines as far as possible.

The Consumer Council reminds the public that Fang Bao also contains a certain level of sodium and should pay attention to weight when eating.
