Projected production declines in the region, information shows that in September 2015, Kenya's food subsidiary and the country's largest exporter of fresh fruit and canned pineapple failed to renew their leased pineapple plantations in the country, which may result in forced closure of its factories. The closure of the plant has not been confirmed. Over the same period, EU 28 countries imported 3566 tons of canned pineapple from the Philippines, down 15% from the previous year, with an average price of $1461 per ton, an increase of 11% over the previous year. This price is the highest in the six regions where European Union imports canned pineapple. China's export of canned pineapple to the 28 EU countries increased by 56% under radical pricing strategies, with an average price of US$1,106 per ton, down 4% from the previous year, the only drop in the average price of canned pineapple suppliers.
