Why is it more important now than before
September is fruit and vegetables - more importantly, for a month, there are still many things to celebrate. Ten years ago, for the better health foundation (PBH) launched fruits and vegetables - more sports. With our extensive website and social media footprints, we continue to work with the production industry to provide consumers with recipes, research and encouragement, including a variety of fruits and vegetables (including fresh, frozen, canned, dry, and 100% juice).
PBH has a wide range of record records and data on consumer attitudes, beliefs, and behavior, involving many aspects of all forms of fruit and vegetables; the new 2017 consumer research provides more insights. If we get clues from this study, as a food and healthy community, how can we help consumers eat more fruits and vegetables as a whole?
The good news is that we see progress and positive forward-looking trends in fruits and vegetables consumption among consumers under 40 years of age. However, consumers who are traditionally most interested in health, including those aged 50 and over, eat fruit and vegetables, are generally declining as time goes on. September is also the month of healthy ageing, which is the best time to encourage the elderly to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables. Convenience and lack of knowledge about production preparation are major obstacles to consumption.
Fruits and vegetables of various forms are crucial to closing the consumption gap of agricultural products. Canned fruits and vegetables, including dried beans, provide convenience, easy preparation and value because of their long shelf life. In addition, many canned foods, apart from nutrition on labels, usually have simple and delicious recipes on labels.
Consider these five facts to promote canned fruit and vegetables to make up for the consumption gap - especially in winter, as some fresh products may not be in season.
1. Canned fruits and vegetables can help Americans, both old and young, to meet their nutritional needs.
Canning options include important nutrients, including essential vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber for healthy eating.
2. Canned fruits and vegetables provide fresh and frozen comparable nutrients.
Research shows that canned fruits and vegetables provide comparable nutrients, sometimes cheaper. Other studies have shown that the formula made from canned ingredients is also very good.
Three. Canned fruits and vegetables can even be eaten for those who observe their sodium intake.
Canned food contributes less than 1% of sodium consumption in consumers' diets. Besides, there is no option to add salt, low sodium and sodium to the grocery store shelves. Finally, rapid drainage and washing can further reduce the sodium content.
4. Canned fruits and canned vegetables are minimally processed.
After harvesting, cleaning, peeling, chopping and pruning, when necessary, food is cooked in the pot to lock in nutrition and flavor.
5. Steel cans are one of the most safe forms of food packaging.
Steel tanks are strong, tamper resistant, and hermetically sealed to help prevent foodborne diseases and pollution. In addition, steel cans are the most recycled food containers.
