Mushroom poisoning in Iran: more than 800 of fatal fungal poisoning

More than 800 people were poisoned after eating poisonous wild mushrooms in about 10 provinces in Western Iran.

At least 11 people died of fungal infections, and hundreds of others were hospitalized.

Iran TASS Nimes news agency reported that there is no effective treatment at present.

At least two people have received a liver transplant. The related mushrooms look similar to edible mushrooms.

People urge people not to buy loose mushrooms, only to buy mushrooms wrapped and sealed in shops.

Seven of the dead were from the Kermanshah area.
