These popular mushrooms are carnivorous. 2018-07-26 09:20:29

 These popular mushrooms are carnivorous.

They may look like fruits of peace in the forest, but mushrooms hide a dark secret. The surface of the wood on the surface of the fungus is a killing place, where tiny worms called nematodes are trapped for slaughter.

Hyphae or filamentous filaments form the majority of fungi, releasing a chemical that attracts nematodes. Once the nematode contacts the hypha, the fungus will release its weapon, a sticky lollipop like NOB, which can paralyze the unfortunate prey.

Once the nematode is paralyzed, the fungus sends the hyphae into the mouth of the resting organism, releasing the protein to help it digest from inside to outside. This is a way of obtaining nitrogen from Pleurotus ostreatus.

This has caused some of the problems of mushroom lovers. For example, can vegetarians eat oyster mushrooms? Or can we learn something in a more serious and scientific note that gives us a foothold in our battle with micro enemies?

What does this mean to human beings

How oyster can overcome its prey can provide inspiration for our own weapons in the struggle against cancer and other diseases. The protein used by oyster mushrooms to kill nematodes is full of (literally) perforated surprises.

New Scientist explains: "Pleurotolysin is not your average protein. It belongs to a group of water-soluble proteins that can form pores in the cell membrane. Single molecules can be linked together on the surface of target cells by 13 rings, like Lego bricks. Once the ring is finished, each molecule is opened down, like a nanoscale biscuit cutter passing through the cell membrane, producing a 8 nanometer wide hole. If the hole does not kill cells directly, other lethal molecules will enter the interior and complete the work.

We also have similar proteins that can be encouraged to punch holes in our enemies in a similar way to help heal or protect our bodies from some problems.

[M] intervention in the human version, perforin, may help prevent immune cells from wrongly attacking the other cells in our body and triggering autoimmune diseases. Controlling the version of bacteria such as Lester and Streptococcus helps to solve bacterial meningitis and pneumonia, "New Scientist reports.

This is very tricky and needs more research. But the potential is obvious.

Surprisingly, this most popular mushroom is a fungus that has a deadly way of life. Who knows? Maybe this is not a new ending, but we bet you never see the oyster in the same way!
