In order to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of consumers and promote the healthy development of the meat industry, the State Administration of Quality Supervision and Inspection (AQSIQ) has recently organized special state supervision and spot checks on frozen pork, cooked meat products and canned meat. A total of 419 kinds of products produced in 18 provinces (regions and cities) including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Qinghai and Ningxia were investigated. 409 kinds of products were qualified with a qualified rate of 97.6%. The products inspected mainly include frozen pork, sauce and marinated meat products, bacon and roast meat products, smoked sausage products, smoked ham products, cured meat products and other cooked pork products, beef and mutton, pork and poultry canned meat.

In this spot check, the qualified rate of frozen pork sampling is 97%. 271 kinds of frozen pork were sampled in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces and municipalities, among which 263 kinds were qualified, and the qualified rate was 97.0%. The key items of this sampling inspection of frozen pork were sensory, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, sulfonamides, leptin and moisture. A total of 8 kinds of products failed, 7 times of unqualified water and 2 unqualified sensory organs. The main problem found in the spot check was that the water content of seven kinds of pork exceeded the standard, and the water content of the highest pork reached 83.4%.

The qualified rate of cooked meat products was 98%. A special sampling survey was conducted on cooked meat products produced and sold in Beijing, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces. A total of 101 kinds of products produced and sold by 66 enterprises were sampled, 99 of which were qualified and the sampling qualified rate was 98.0%. The key inspection items of cooked meat products are sulfonamides, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, lean meat essence and heavy metal lead. The 3 samples of doxycycline, oxytetracycline and clenbuterol in the 101 samples were all qualified. There are 2 kinds of unqualified products, 1 kinds of sulfonamide exceeding standard, and 1 kinds of lead exceeding standard.

The pass rate of canned meat was 100%. A total of 47 kinds of meat cans were extracted from 36 production enterprises in 14 provinces (regions and cities) such as Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Anhui, Fujian, Shandong, Henan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, Qinghai and Ningxia. All the products were qualified. The detection items of canned meat mainly include coliform bacteria, commercial sterility, nitrite, total mercury, inorganic arsenic and sensory.

The State Administration of Quality Supervision and Inspection (AQSIQ) has asked the relevant local quality supervision departments to investigate and deal with the unqualified products found in the spot check, and ordered the enterprises to rectify within a time limit. If the unqualified products still appear after rectification, the AQSIQ will revoke its food production license directly. At the same time, it publicizes the products with better quality and their production enterprises, exposes the products with worse quality and their production enterprises, and guides the consumers to choose and purchase correctly.
