As the autumn cool approached, China's main citrus producing areas in Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and other places showed a bumper harvest scene, reporters from the Chinese Food and Livestock Import and Export Chamber of Commerce learned that due to the European Union to implement temporary safeguards and tariff quota restrictions on Chinese canned citrus, China's citrus canning production enterprises and export operations. Enterprises should pay close attention to the current blocked situation so as not to suffer losses.

 

Reporters learned that the European Union was once one of the main exporters of canned citrus in China. At present, the European Union has implemented temporary safeguards for the export of canned citrus to China, but the European Union has implemented a tariff quota system for canned citrus in China annually on the grounds that the temporary safeguards are insufficient to reduce the number of canned imported products. The quota is 30 thousand tons.

 

Canned citrus produced in Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui and Shanghai are mainly exported from Shanghai ports. The export of canned citrus at Shanghai ports is hindered by EU safeguards and tariff quotas. Britain, Sweden, Italy and Greece, once the major consumers of canned citrus in China, are now shutting out Chinese products.  Germany, once a major consumer of Citrus canned goods, dropped 96% this year compared with the same period last year.

 

Due to the blocked export, the small and medium-sized citrus producers in China are most affected. According to the relevant regulations of EU tariff quota, if the quota is exceeded, the enterprises will have to bear an extra tariff of up to 300 euros per ton of products, which will undoubtedly greatly increase the burden of China's export enterprises and canning enterprises. In the face of severe EU market, China's citrus canning enterprises should promptly open up the international market except EU, and at the same time, pay attention to the development of domestic market. Fruit processing enterprises in the face of harvest of citrus, should be processed through deep processing to bring better benefits to fruit farmers.
