Nowadays, Shanghai consumers can eat 8 tons of all kinds of canned meat every day. In addition to lunch meat, new canned meat such as braised pork ribs and Dongpo elbows are all popular.

Domestic and export markets flourishing

Canned food is a traditional fist product exported from China, but in recent years, the whole industry has been operating at a small profit, coupled with the appreciation of the RMB and other factors, so that canned food began to export-oriented to domestic sales. Especially the meat canning production enterprises are more affected by the exchange rate, the price of orders signed earlier can not be arbitrarily raised, and domestic pork raw materials in the past year frequently increase the yardstick price, this entry and exit can make the canned meat export enterprises lose 6% of the net profit. Despite the boom in both export and domestic markets, Meilin's canned meat, which used to be supplied by 95% of its products, is also beginning to increase domestic sales to compensate for export losses, and now accounts for half of the total domestic sales.

Canned meat has regained popularity in Shanghai, partly because many urbanites find it more convenient to eat canned meat and are too lazy to spend time buying meat for barbecue. Some consumers also miss the long-lost taste of lunch meat. On the other hand, the price of fresh pork has been soaring recently, while the price of canned meat has not changed since this year, so many middle-aged and old people think it is a good deal to buy lunch meat. However, this does not mean that the producers will digest the rising cost of pork alone, but that the price transmission process has a certain time. Since most of the canned meat sold in supermarkets in recent years was purchased at a fixed price, the price could not be raised. As a new batch of canned pork with high market prices is gradually on the shelf, retail prices of canned meat are expected to rise by about 10% by the end of this month and early next month.

Overseas supply base

Will European pork be cheaper than domestic meat? This is not impossible. Pork in Europe is mainly priced according to its location * for example, a 400 gram weight muscle in a pig's neck is very expensive, while some fragmented pork in non major parts are sold at a low price. This part of the cheap pork plus freight charges is still competitive in the Chinese market. At the end of last year, the domestic price of raw pork for canned meat was about 10,000 yuan per ton, but now it has risen to 14,500 yuan per ton, a considerable increase. In order to increase the supply channel and reduce the purchase cost, Shanghai Meilin canned meat not only stabilizes Shandong, Sichuan and Chongqing production bases, but also plans to import some pork raw materials from Europe by September this year. In addition, food production bases invested in the Czech Republic have taken shape and are planning to procure raw materials locally and in surrounding countries with sufficient supplies. By the end of this year, the new Czech factory will produce Meilin brand meat products made from European pork. In addition to some of them being sold in European and North American markets, Shanghai residents will enjoy a considerable amount of imported Meilin brand canned meat.
