China is competing to become a major exporter of sweet corn. 2018-08-27 08:15:03

China is competing to become a major exporter of sweet corn.

Both German and British trade giants have revealed that for months they have been struggling to find a source of canned sweet corn; now they have discovered that China is a new source of supply.

The British trader, who has already started importing canned sweet corn from China, imports both large-scale and retail products, and the quality of this product in China is no problem.

Unfortunately, for the time being, this may not be the overall situation of canned sweet corn products in China.

General Manager Chen of China Export Corporation frankly admits that the quantity of canned sweet corn exported by China to Europe is not very large on the export agenda; besides, there are still some certificate issues to be solved.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard is also a prerequisite for many importers to consider imports.

Also, the German International Food Standard (IFS) is the same for many importers.

The general manager also said that the quality of canned sweet corn products is not very good, but in two years, the quality of this product will be very different.

Now, for new customers in Europe, it's important to have a supply, not price, so there are signs that China will export a lot of canned sweet corn in 2007.

In 2004, China exported only 1,550 tons of canned sweet corn; in 2005, China almost doubled its total exports to 2,370 tons.

And last year (2006), the number of exports of this product doubled, to a total of 6610 tons.

However, these exports of Chinese products still lag far behind Thailand's 125,780 tons, and behind France's 109,250 tons.

If China's exports continue to grow at this rate, then China's canned sweet corn exports will soon catch up with those of the two countries.

The current situation of canned sweet corn imported from Russia

China is the third largest exporter of canned sweet corn in Russia, after Hungary and Thailand.

At present, 60% of the canned sweet corn exported by China is exported to Russia. Chinese traders have very good relations in Russia.

During the period from 2006 to September, Hungary and Thailand exported 26,365 and 26,180 tons of canned sweet corn to Russia, respectively; during the same period, China exported only 4,100 tons of canned sweet corn to Russia.

A German trader said that canned sweet corn was in short supply in Europe, but the price of the product in Thailand was very high and the shipment was not timely.

As a result, many European companies see China as a backup or alternative source of goods.

A British trader also confirmed that we would not sign long-term contracts but would look at developments in Europe before making new decisions.

In the first month of 2007, the off-season for canned sweet corn production, China exported more than 1,000 tons, and 400 to 500 containers were ready to be supplied under contract.

A German trader said China's total exports of canned sweet corn were likely to double again in 2007.

General Manager Chen of China adds confidently that the price of our canned sweet corn products is very competitive. Our offer is $7 per case (24x 340g, FOB).

This price is roughly the same as that quoted by German traders, and the same price is: $3.55 per case (12 x 425 ml, FOB, South China port).
