On March 2, the reporter learned from the Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Taizhou, Zhejiang that from January to February 2017, Taizhou, Zhejiang, exported 3157.5 tons of canned oranges from the United States, with a value of $3.572 million, an increase of 19.6% and 10.2% respectively. In addition, 600 batches of carbendazim in canned oranges sampled during the production season of 2016-2017 met the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA).
It is reported that in January 2016, the FDA of the United States continuously informed seven batches of canned oranges imported from Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, that they were refused entry due to the detection of carbendazim content exceeding the standard. This is the first time that the exported canned oranges in Taizhou, Zhejiang were reported by the United States for the first time because of pesticide residues. In the first quarter of 2016, the export volume of canned oranges imported from the United States showed a downward trend, and the canned orange industry as a whole fell into a low ebb.
It is understood that carbendazim, as a broad-spectrum fungicide, is widely used in citrus cultivation in China. With the continuous intensification of spot checks on agricultural products in the United States, canned orange enterprises in Taizhou Prefecture of Zhejiang Province have to slow down or even interrupt their export plans.
In order to help the canned orange enterprises in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province get out of the dilemma, the Zhejiang Taizhou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau actively carried out the risk investigation of carbendazim residues in canned oranges. Data show that during the production season of 2016-2017, Taizhou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Zhejiang Province set up 123 monitoring points covering five major production areas: Linhai, Sanmen, Ninghai, Yichang, Hubei and Chongming, Shanghai. A total of 172 samples of orange raw materials were monitored throughout the year, and five purchasing points of orange raw materials with high carbendazim residues were eliminated.
In addition, the Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Taizhou, Zhejiang Province also held a quality and safety seminar with the participation of three parties of the Association of Quarantine and Enterprise, and convened professional and technical personnel in inspection, supervision, pesticide research and other fields to give advice and suggestions on how to carry out the substitution of carbendazim in raw material cultivation, and at the same time to strengthen cooperation with local agricultural departments to deepen the seminar Citrus planting bases and agricultural material distribution stations in Sanmenpuba and Linhai Yongquan of Shandong Province, publicize the requirements of foreign technical standards and the alternative use scheme of carbendazim.
