Botulism poisoning caused by canned food in California, USA

A California company has announced a recall of a series of canned foods that are vulnerable to Botox contamination because of problems in the production process, according to Food Safety News. Two cases of botulism have been reported.

The recalled foods included pine nut basil sauce, pickled assorted assorted paste, tomato sauce, olive oil tomato, barbecue sauce, and Italian sauce. The products were sold in VR green farm in Clement, California, and sold in the form of online shopping.

It is reported that if botulinum toxin is eaten through canned foods, it will become infected or even die. The California Department of Public Health is working with the FDA and the Ohio Department of Health to investigate two related cases.

Botulinum toxin is colorless and tasteless. Botulism is a rare but serious disease that can paralyze people. Symptoms of initial poisoning include blurred vision, blepharoptosis, dry mouth or sore throat, followed by paralysis of the lower extremities.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommends that consumers who have ingested a product with a problem should consult their healthcare staff immediately. If the consumer finds that the product is still on sale, it can report to CDPH.
