California peach prices will rise this season 2018-12-03 10:30:01

California peach prices will rise this season

Total peach production in California is expected to decline by 11% this season. Peach cans processing plants and growers have reached an agreement that the price of raw peach materials will rise by 7.2%. From $455 per ton last year to $488 per ton this year.

California peach growers have reached a price agreement with one of the two largest peach processors in the region. Next, as expected by the California Canned Peach Association (CCPA), price agreements will be reached with another major peach processor.

CCPA reports that California peach production is expected to be "the lowest in history" this season. According to the latest "Block x Block" industry report, California's total peach production is 259,359 (short) tons, which is lower than previous estimates. As a result, California's canned peach production is estimated at 9.5 million boxes.

Earlier this year, the canned food business was stopped and the peach growers'agreement was cancelled, forcing them to plant other crops to avoid excess peaches. Yuba/Sartre - The main peach producing area is expected to have a harvest of 150,000 tons. The other three main production areas are expected to produce 72,644 tons of Modestone, 28,000 tons of Kingsburg and 9,300 tons of Stockton.

Last year, California peach production fell 8% from the previous year to 300,000 tons and 13.3 million boxes.

Conditions of sale for 2018

Due to the size of raw materials and soft fruits in three California peach canneries during the last season, the acquisition conditions changed this year.

The rate of purchasing peaches and other foreign products by peach cans processing plants should not exceed 5%, compared with the lowest rate of 10% last year.

Goods with a low standard peach size rate of more than 4% will be fined by USD75/ton, compared with a minimum of 5% last year.

The weight of ripe fruit increased from no less than 2.9 pounds (1.315 kg) last year to no less than 3.6 pounds (1.633 kg) this year.

To the grower's advantage, the harvesting price of the machine increased from USD20/ton last year to USD30/ton, and the allowance of 3% of the general defect was restored. This is "in response to protecting the interests of growers," CCPA points out.
