South Africa's peach output this year is 170,665 tons, an increase of 4% over last year. About 140,000 tons are used for processing, of which 84,000 tons are exported for processing.
Chile's canned peach exports from January to October this year were 28% less than the total of 2016, reaching 475,000 tons. Chile's peach output this year is 280,000 tons, which is the normal annual output. The price of raw materials is $0.22 per kilogram, 10% higher than that in 2016.
This year, China's canned peach trade remained stable. From January to October 2017, China's peach canned exports amounted to 115,500 tons, with an estimated annual export volume of nearly 150,000 tons. Last year, China's peach canned exports totaled 135,100 tons. The United States and Japan are the largest traditional peach canned export markets in China, accounting for about 65% of China's total peach canned export. Since 2012, the number of canned Chinese peaches imported by Canada and Chile has doubled, while the number of canned Chinese peaches imported by South Korea has dropped from 7,000 tons in 2012 to 1,380 tons in January-October this year.
Greek peach production reached 375,000 tons this year, an increase of 40% over 2016. However, IEG (Food News) customs data show that Greek canned peach exports fell 24% to 141,000 tons from January to October this year compared with the same period last year. Greece exported 231,000 tons of canned peaches last year. Even so, local sources at IEG Vu (Food News) believe that the current shipment situation is satisfactory. The price of canned Greek peaches is not expected to change in the coming months. "Buyers are reluctant to pay higher prices because processing of canned peaches in South Africa and Chile will start in a month and may be in excess of demand." A local industry source explained that the price of canned peaches packed in 24x1KG standard packages remained at 15 per box.
Canned Spanish peach exports from January to October this year decreased by 5% to 73,524 tons compared with the total volume of 2016. This year, about 125,000 tons of processed peaches (80% for canned peach and 25% for juice) were used in this industry. IEG Vu (Food News) understands that although supply has increased, prices have fallen in order to "slow" inventory clearance.
