According to Japanese media reports, an aquatic processing company named "Xintian Canning" in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, produced and exported about 3 million canned broccoli fish in 2014, and shipped them as old as before with saury ingredients mixed in.

 

The report said that even though more than half of the contents of canned saury were used, it was not marked on the raw material list.

 

In an interview with Japanese media, the company said, "When the supply of blue and white fish is insufficient, in order to give priority to ensuring shipments, it used saury as a substitute for raw materials. I am deeply sorry for the purchasers and consumers.

 

According to the company, the product called "MADKHANAH" mixed with saury is salted canned blue and white fish for export to the Middle East (a can of 95 grams of net content). The flesh is sliced into thin slices, and it is difficult for consumers to distinguish saury from broccoli with the naked eye alone. It is reported that this canned food in Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries is used as cooking salad and soup ingredients.

 

The company was acquired in 2015 by a wholesale food company in Nagano, Japan, and became a subsidiary of the company. At that time, internal investigations were conducted by wholesale companies, only to discover the fact that they were mixed with saury. It is reported that in 2014, about 16 million cans produced and shipped, about 3 million cans of saury ingredients added.

 

At present, the company involved has apologized to the Middle East purchasing agency through its business. And paid the compensation to reach a settlement. It is understood that the company also made the former president's demotion and other internal sanctions.
