Recently, five major Spanish seafood industry organizations submitted a survey report to the Spanish National Research Council (CSCI), the third largest public research institution in Europe. According to the report, only tuna, COD and anchovy in England and Ireland account for 2% and 18% of all canned seafood products in the European Union.
It is reported that Spain's five major seafood industry organizations are the "Association of Mariculture Producers Enterprises (APROMAR)", "National Fisheries Federation (Cepesca)", "National Association of Fish and Shellfish Cannerers (ANFACO-CECOPESCA)", "National Association of Fish and Refrigerated Products Retailers and Entrepreneurs (Federpesca)" and "National Association of Fish and Refrigerated Products Retailers and Entrepreneurs". Association of Fisheries and aquaculture products processing and Marketing Enterprises Association (Feicopesca).
According to the official website of CSIC, the agency is launching a "Labelfish Counterfeiting Program" in Spain's Galicia Autonomous Region, which aims to "crack down on commercial fraud of fish products in Spain and seek the best solution to protect consumers'vital interests and solve key problems".
It is reported that the five major Spanish seafood industry organizations also issued a statement, the main points of the statement are as follows:
1. reiterates that the existing laws on seafood labeling should be strictly maintained and observed to prevent any illegal activities. In addition, the label of seafood products should be regarded as the first concern of enterprises to ensure fair market competition.
2. Broadly publicize and implement the "Labelfish" counterfeiting special treatment to improve its deterrence;
3. Unifying and coordinating the traceability of all kinds of seafood products is the established goal of the industry. The goal is to enhance the identification of the quality and species of seafood products.
4. According to the recommendation of ANFACO-CECOPESCA, it is proposed to authorize the laboratories of the only national certification authority (ENAC) in Spain to identify and certify aquatic species and types.
5. For the major EU seafood industry countries, including their fishing, processing and marketing links, all should adopt the "scientific species name" and "commodity name" unified by international laws and regulations, and should emphasize the corresponding relationship between the two. The relevant competent authorities within the EU should be clear who is responsible for the supervision of seafood raw materials import, loading and unloading, transportation, disposal and inspection of the whole traceability work;
6. All relevant industries and departments of the seafood industry should follow the quality system controlled by the official channels, such as ISO9000, BRC, IFS, and the global GAP voluntary certification.
It was revealed that during the whole process of exploration, promotion and implementation, the above five seafood industry organizations stressed that the principle of "authenticity, technicality and rigorous analysis" must be strictly adhered to, and the relevant Spanish legislation or European legislation should be taken as its legal guarantee to prevent the occurrence and spread of similar cases.
