The Hong Kong Food Safety Center announced Wednesday that a trace of malachite green was detected in two canned mud carp samples and is following up the incident.

 

Samples of 6 fresh dace samples and 3 canned dace samples were collected at different retail outlets. The results showed that malachite green was detected in 1.3 parts per billion and 0.78 parts per billion of canned mud carp samples from the Huikang supermarket in the North Point and West Rim respectively. Hongkong law does not allow any food containing malachite green.

 

 

 

The supermarket has stopped selling two batches of products according to the central directive. The centre will notify the industry of the incident and trace the source and distribution of the food in question. The industry should also stop selling the related products.
