According to customs export statistics, in the first nine months of this year, the average export price of canned goods in China rose by 3.13% compared with the same period last year, and continued to maintain a rebound momentum.

 

According to the latest China Canning Trade Analysis Report 2002 issued by the China Canning Industry Association, the average export price of canned goods in 2002 was US$745.99, up 8.22% over the previous year. This is the first time that the price has been declining for many years.

 

Liang Zhongkang, chairman of the China Canning Association, thinks that the price rebound shows that China's canning industry is gradually breaking the low-price competition and turning from "price war" to "technology upgrading war".

 

The canned industry in China is mainly exported, mostly for foreign licensed processing. Due to the long-standing problems of single product structure and low value-added, competition for orders by lowering prices, resulting in the annual decline in export prices, most canning enterprises in a long period of low-profit operation, and affect the development of the industry as a whole. At present, some canning enterprises with strong economic strength have increased their investment in technology to promote product quality and economic benefits through technological upgrading. In 2001, marked by the introduction of microwave thawing technology into Xiamen Cannery to improve the traditional luncheon meat production process, the upsurge of technological upgrading in China's canning industry and related supporting industries has been widened.
