USDA: about 87 thousand pounds of processed beef were recalled for drug contamination. 2018-09-21 11:38:19

USDA: about 87 thousand pounds of processed beef were recalled for drug contamination.

About 87,000 pounds of processed beef have been recalled for drug contamination involving canned Libby salted beef from Brazil and canned seasoned beef. The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to expand its inspection.

Comprehensive foreign reports on May 18, the U. S. Department of Agriculture said about 87,000 pounds of processed beef was recalled, because the product may be infected with a drug used to remove insects ivermectin.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the infected Libby canned salted beef and seasoned beef were produced in Brazil and sold in the United States by Chicago-based Sampco. The canned beef is further processed into other products.

The contamination was detected in a routine sampling, but the USDA said it had decided to expand its inspection to see if other products from the same Brazilian manufacturer and other companies were also contaminated.
