This year, although the Greek peach crop is growing well, considering the failure of last year's forecast, the country's industry decided to postpone the release of Greek peach production and price forecasts.

 

At present, the cold winter weather can predict a good harvest in the next season. The early-maturing walnut-free peach blossom in northern Greece has blossomed.

 

"Peach cans buyers from all over the world have asked for information about Greece's season and predicted possible quantities and prices," he said at a press conference. Although he admits that the prospects for peach crops are promising, he thinks it's too early to release information.

 

He cautioned that last year, at this stage, a forecast was issued that peach production was abundant, which led to lower final product prices. The result is actually less than the predicted output, driving up the price of raw materials. "This has pushed the Greek canning industry from its expected earnings to a dilemma," he said.

 

He believes that the production costs of sugar, tinplate and energy consumption in this season are higher than those in the previous season, so the quantity and price of crops can only be released when they are accurate. "Once we can prove that predictions are responsible, we will let the market know," he added.

 

This season (2016/17), the Greek Cannery Association recalled that at least two decreases in the final yield of the original crop resulted in a 10% drop in the yield of peach cans over the estimated 8.5 million boxes and a 14.3% decrease last year, the second lowest in the past seven years, after the disaster-prone year of 2013, when the yield fell to 7.8 million boxes.
