According to the Greek Canned Association (EKE), the total production of Greek gooseberries (canned yellow peaches) is expected to drop by 5,000 tons this season compared with last year. EKE said that based on the first forecast, the total production of nectarines this year is about 297,000 tons, down 1.7% from last year and 30% from 2014. At the press conference of the 13th World Conference on Deciduous Fruit Processing held in Mendoza in April this year, EKE data showed that the total production of peaches reached 302,000 tons in 2015, slightly more than three quarters of which were used for canning and 11% (34,000 tons) for processing concentrated peach paste. Manufacturers participating in the World Private Brand Products Exhibition in Amsterdam are cautious about the prospects for peach crops. Because of the frost in March and the mild winter, peach trees blossom ahead of time, which may lead to peaches smaller than last year.
