According to the annual data published by the European Peach Magazine, it is reported that peach and nectarine production in Italy, France, Greece and Spain will increase by 11% this year compared with last year.

 

Although the total output of the four European Peach-producing countries will increase by 4-9%, Greece will increase significantly more than the other three countries. This year, it is expected to increase by 49% compared with last year and 37% higher than the average output in 2011-15. Local insiders in Greece expect this year's harvest to return to normal after four years of poor harvest.

Pavia yellow peach is the fourth variety analyzed by European Peach Magazine in this report. 90% of its output in Europe comes from Spain and Greece, and it is the main variety in the peach cans market. Greece accounts for 67-75% and Spain 25-33% of the total output of peach cans in the European Union.

 

Greek yellow peaches have increased dramatically this year (by 57%) due to good weather conditions and the start of a new planting program in Greece in 2012. At the CanCon conference in South Africa in 2012, Greece predicted production of nearly 500,000 tons in the next four to five years.

 

Peaches and nectarines were harvested poorly in Europe last year due to bad weather conditions. This winter has been cold enough to ensure the normal yield of peaches.
