Last year, clingstone peach, a canned peach ingredient in Europe, received 776,900 tons, and its total output this year is uncertain.

 

At present, Greece's nectarine has begun to harvest, but due to rainwater and hot weather, it is estimated that brown rot will lead to reduced harvest, affecting this year's production.

 

The chairman of the Greek Canned Association (EKE) said: "The total production of nectarines will be significantly lower than last year, but the loss of raw materials can not be quantified at present."

 

Last year, Greece produced 375,000 tons of nectarine. Prices have fallen to Euro 0.24 per kilogram ($0.28 per kilogram).

 

Canned Greek peaches are expected to rise 4.5% this year, based on rising prices for cans and energy. However, the latest events have led to uncertainty: "Now we are not sure how much the price of canned raw materials will go up, because we can't check the quality of fruit yet." The representative of Greece's main peach cans company said.

 

Greece is the largest country in Europe where nectarines are grown. Without the influence of bad weather, the output is estimated to account for about half of Europe's total production.

 

Spain is Europe's second largest peach-growing country, with an estimated output of 309,967 tons, an increase of 1.5% over last year.

 

Italian nectarine production will drop to 70,226 tons, 18.8% less than last year. French nectarine production is expected to decrease from 5,443 tons last year to 4,974 tons this year.
